About CERAL
The Climate Extremes & Risk Analytics Lab (CERAL) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) is an interdisciplinary research initiative dedicated to advancing the understanding of climate extremes and their impacts on society, the economy, and financial systems. By integrating expertise in climate science, economics, finance, statistics, and data science, CERAL develops innovative analytical frameworks to assess and quantify climate-related risks.
The lab aims to transform complex climate data into actionable insights that support evidence-based decision-making, strengthen resilience, and inform sustainable policies. Through cutting-edge research, collaboration, and student engagement, CERAL is committed to addressing Bangladesh's climate challenges while contributing to global advancements in climate risk analytics.

To establish the CERAL as a leading interdisciplinary research hub in South Asia for the study of extreme climate events and their economic, financial, and societal impacts. CERAL aspires to advance the frontier of climate risk analytics by integrating rigorous quantitative and qualitative methods with real-world applications, ultimately contributing to more resilient economies, informed decision-making, and sustainable development in climate-vulnerable regions.

Mission
The mission of CERAL is to develop and apply advanced analytical frameworks to understand, quantify, and translate extreme climate events into actionable insights across financial, economic, and public health domains.
To achieve this, the lab will:
- Conduct high-quality research on extreme event modeling and risk analytics, with a strong emphasis on quantitative and data-driven methodologies
- Bridge the gap between climate science and economic and financial decision-making through interdisciplinary collaboration
- Generate evidence-based insights to support policy development, risk management and strategic planning
